Article III. VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS |
§ 8-23. Junior firefighters.
Pursuant to the authority of section 40.1-79.1 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, the Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc., and the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. (the "agencies"), are authorized to allow minors sixteen (16) years of age or older to work with and participate fully in all of their activities, subject, however, to the following conditions:
(1)
The said agencies must maintain written permission from the minor's parent or guardian on file, together with proof of the minor's age; and
(2)
The minor must have attained certification under the National Fire Protection Association 1001, level one, firefighter standards, as administered by the Virginia Department of Fire Programs, and the said agencies must maintain written evidence of such certification on file; and
(3)
The said agencies must purchase the insurance described in section 40.1-79.1(B) of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, and maintain written evidence that such coverage is in force; and
(4)
All such other reasonable terms and conditions for participation in the activities of the company as shall be set forth in writing and approved by the members of the agencies, or published and promulgated pursuant to law by any agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
